Zusammenfassung

Das Bindegewebe besteht aus Zellen, die in einer von ihnen selbst gebildeten, für die Funktion wichtigen extrazellulären Matrix eingebettet sind. Die Matrix enthält verschiedene Typen von Kollagenen, die Fasern bilden und dem Gewebe seine Zugfestigkeit verleihen. Die Mikrofibrillen und die um sie herum gebildeten elastischen Fasern in Haut, großen Gefäßen und Ligamenten geben den Geweben die nötige Dehnbarkeit und Elastizität. Die Proteoglykane wiederum verleihen diesen dank ihrer Wasserbindungskapazität Turgor und Stabilität. Quantitative und qualitative Änderungen einzelner gewebespezifisch exprimierter Bestandteile der extrazellulären Matrix führen direkt oder über veränderte Bindung von Wachstums- und Differenzierungsfaktoren zum mechanischen Versagen und damit zu Bindegewebskrankheiten mit charakteristischem Organbefall.
