Internetbasierte Psychotherapie ist eine neue Entwicklung im Bereich der Klinischen Psychologie, die neue Fragen in Bezug auf die Bedeutung und Qualität der therapeutischen Beziehung aufwirft, aber auch durch ihren innovativen Charakter Skepsis im Hinblick auf ihre Wirksamkeit hervorruft. Die therapeutische Beziehungzwischen Patient und Therapeut wird mitunter als hauptverantwortlich für den Behandlungserfolg gesehen. Aber inwieweit ist eine erfolgreiche und wirksame Therapie davon abhängig, dass ein Face-to-Face-Kontakt (FtF) zwischen Patient und Therapeut vorhanden ist? Während einer psychologischen Intervention im Internet findet der therapeutische Kontakt entweder virtuell oder in Form von Selbsthilfemodulen statt. Das heißt, es besteht kein persönlicher Kontakt zwischen Therapeut und Patient in der Form, dass sie miteinander sprechen oder sich sehen. Aus diesem Grund stellen sich die grundlegenden Fragen: Kann sich eine persönliche therapeutische Beziehung auch ohne ein persönliches Gegenüber entwickeln und ist diese Form der Therapie auch wirksam? Inwieweit spielen ein persönliches Gegenüber, die Stimme und Anwesenheit des Therapeuten eine Rolle?
