The in-situ pig heart with regional ischemia/reperfusion - Ready for translation
2011, Journal of Molecular and Cellular CardiologyCitation Excerpt :In the following, we will focus on myocardial infarction as endpoint because it is the most robust and irreversible endpoint, and all cardioprotective maneuvers are essentially defined through reduction of infarct size [40–42]. Apart from infarct size reduction by endogenous cardioprotective phenomena, the cardioprotective potential of drugs can be determined from the observed reduction in infarct size, along with potential favorable effects on systemic hemodynamics and collateral blood flow [43–48]. Myocardial infarction develops over time in close dependence on the residual collateral blood flow.
