Mit rund 6100 Neuerkrankungen pro Jahr ist das Prostatakarzinom schweizweit die häufigste Krebserkrankung des Mannes [1] und die zweithäufigste krebsbedingte Todesursache. Mehr als die Hälfte der neu diagnostizierten Prostatakarzinome betreffen Männer über 65 Jahre. Rund 1300 Männer sterben jährlich am Prostatakrebs, 75 % der Tumoren werden in einem frühen Stadium entdeckt und sind somit kurativ therapierbar (Abb. 1).
