Der Tryptophanstoffwechsel, seine Metaboliten und damit assoziierte Krankheiten

Zusammenfassung

In den letzten Jahren hat sich der Tryptophanstoffwechsel als zentraler Knotenpunkt für die metabolische Kontrolle über bedeutende entzündliche und neuropsychiatrische Prozesse etabliert. Die essenzielle Aminosäure Tryptophan (TRP) ist mit der Produktion ihrer vielen biologisch aktiven Metaboliten an der Regulierung wichtiger physiologischer Funktionen des menschlichen Körpers beteiligt. Veränderungen und Dysbalancen im TRP-Stoffwechsel sind daher mit zahlreichen Krankheiten wie Depression, Krebs, Autoimmunerkrankungen, Alzheimer und anderen psychiatrischen und neurodegenerativen Störungen assoziiert. In diesem Artikel wird die klinische Relevanz bestimmter TRP-Metaboliten beschrieben, zudem werden die Konsequenzen eines gestörten TRP-Stoffwechsels anhand einiger ausgewählter Erkrankungen vorgestellt. Die Untersuchung von TRP-Metaboliten und das Wissen über ihre jeweiligen Funktionen kann wesentlich zum Verständnis der Ätiologie und der Auswirkungen vieler Krankheiten beitragen. Dadurch kann der Einfluss des TRP-Stoffwechsels auf verschiedene Krankheitspathologien verdeutlicht und die Entwicklung von entsprechenden zielgerichteten Therapien massgeblich vorangetrieben werden.
