Zusammenfassung

Eine erhöhte Serumkonzentration des humanen Choriongonadotropins (HCG) findet man hauptsächlich in der Schwangerschaft. In der Patientenpopulation im Alter zwischen 40 und 55 Jahren gibt es aber andere wichtige Differentialdiagnosen einer HCG-Erhöhung im Serum nach Ausschluss einer Schwangerschaft. Man sollte sich bewusst sein, dass die hypophysäre Produktion von HCG im Alter zunimmt und dadurch können unnötige Abklärungen und Therapien vermieden werden. Die durchschnittliche HCG-Konzentration beträgt gemäss Literatur 6,4 U/L in der Perimenopause und in der Postmenopause 11,6 U/L.
