Zusammenfassung

Benzodiazepine (BZDs) haben wegen ihrer guten Verträglichkeit und ihres Sicherheitsprofils eine weite Verbreitung gefunden. Die Langzeiteinnahme erscheint jedoch problematisch und dürfte bei entsprechender Vulnerabilität zu Schlafstörungen, verstärkter Ängstlichkeit, Konzentrationsstörungen bis zu kognitiven Einbußen und körperlichen Beschwerden führen, sodass von einem BZD-Langzeiteinnahmesyndrom gesprochen werden kann, das die Gefahr einer Demenzentwicklung in sich birgt.
