Chancellor’s news could be much worse

Most of the announcements in the chancellor’s statement on government spending last week were not news at all. He had already said that nurses and healthcare assistants will receive a pay award of or around 1 per cent in 2014 and 2015, and that he wants an end to annual increments across the public sector.
