In Österreich zeigt sich aus demographischer Sicht eine Zunahme der Komplexität in der Versorgung von Patientinnen und Patienten in Krankenanstalten. Begründen lässt sich dies durch die aktuelle Diskussion um antineoplastische Therapien, von welchen ein Viertel laut National Comprehensive Cancer Network [NCCN] Taskforce, eine orale antineoplastische Therapie sein soll (Weingart, 2008). Die Verordnung von oraler Chemotherapie bringt eine Reihe Vorteile, aber auch Nachteile mit sich. Einer der Vorteile ist eine kürzere Aufenthaltszeit im Krankenhaus und damit erhöhter Therapiekomfort, jedoch ergeben kürzere Aufenthaltszeiten den Nachteil, weniger Zeit für umfassendes Symptommanagement zu haben (Winkeljohn, et al., 2007). Über 80 Prozent der onkologischen Patientinnen und Patienten, die älter als 65 Jahre sind, leiden an Komorbiditäten, was eine erhöhte Anzahl an Medikamenteneinnahmen und damit erhöhte Komplexität mit sich bringt (Blower, et al., 2005). …
